Beautiful Pair of Antique Framed Bird Lithograph Prints after John Gould (1804–1881), Trogon Ambiguus, Trogon Collaris, Natural History

A decorative pair of antique bird lithograph prints after John Gould (1804–1881), the British ornithologist and illustrator, depicting “Trogon Ambiguus” and “Trogon Collaris”.

The birds are shown perched on branches among delicate foliage, flowers and berries. Rich green plumage, red breasts and finely detailed feathers contrast beautifully with the warm cream backgrounds. Each print bears its species name beneath the illustration.

The lower margins carry the inscriptions “Drawn from Nature & on Stone by J & E. Gould” and “Printed by C. Hullmandel.”

Presented under glass in matching slender gold-toned frames, these complementary pictures make an elegant pair displayed side by side. Their natural history subjects would follow a study, sitting room or country house interior.
